Line 1 of the metro was the first line to open in 1900. In over a century, it has seen a number of extensions, the most recent being an extension to the West between Porte Maillot and La Défense in 1992.
In 2011, the Local Authority gave its approval for a new extension, this time towards the East to Val de Fontenay (94). The route was approved in 2013 by elected representatives in the towns affected, in accordance with the guidelines in the Greater Paris Region Master Plan (SDRIF).
This time, there will be three new stops with certainly two stations: Les Rigollots (Fontenay), and Val de Fontenay which will interconnect with the RER E, RER A and the future line 15 of the Grand Paris Express by 2030.
This project is not included in the transport mobilisation plan 2013/2017 as part of the Nouveau Grand Paris.
The contracting authorities for this project are the STIF and the RATP.
Note: An extension to the West of La Défense towards Nanterre has also been suggested, but this is unlikely in light of the Grand Paris Express project. Furthermore, this project does not feature in the SDRIF.
